Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the USA
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or related experience in steel fabrication and construction
  • In-depth knowledge and background in blueprint reading and fabrication practices
  • Capacity to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to production or productivity problems
  • Ability to effectively manage time and communicate information and ideas verbally and in writing
  • Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution
  • Ability to schedule events, programs, activities, and the work of others
  • Computer experience (Google Workspace and Microsoft Office)
  • Physical ability to regularly stand, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects/tools/controls, reach with hands and arms; frequently climb/balance, stoop/kneel/crouch/crawl, talk/hear, lift/move up to 60 pounds; specific vision abilities (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, adjust focus)
  • Ability to work in steel fabrication environment with routine exposure to excessive noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, fumes/vapors/airborne particles; occasional outside weather, high/precarious places, risk of electrical shock

Responsibilities

  • Supervise tasks and work of production support staff to ensure production objectives are met, consistent with company’s corporate mission, values, and plant financial objectives
  • Present production schedules, records, and reports on production productivity to plant leadership
  • Evaluate current production estimates and outputs
  • Identify variances between productivity levels and production goals
  • Identify direct and indirect labor issues and production problems, make recommendations, and assist management in developing corrective action plans
  • Engage and direct daily production operations, anticipate production problems (e.g., material shortages, equipment malfunctions, rush orders) to minimize loss of work hours and achieve production/quality objectives
  • Utilize skills, work hours, materials, and workflow to achieve production and quality objectives; exchange timely information with other supervisors on interdepartmental product flow and workforce needs
  • Instruct, train, orient, motivate, and assist team of fitters, welders, CNC operators, and other employees to achieve safety, quality, and production objectives
  • Participate in selection/interview process to fill worker positions and appraise employee performance; recommend promotions, transfers, and work assignments
  • Keep employees informed of company rules/regulations, production, and quality expectations
  • Maintain professionalism and stay abreast of new developments through publications, vendors, and in-house management training
  • Perform other job duties as assigned by the Plant Superintendent
