Product Designer

Position Overview

Clipboard Health is seeking Product Designers to enhance the quality of our product, strengthen our brand, and better support our customers. As a Designer, you will tackle meaningful problems, collaborate closely with Engineering and Product teams, and shape the user experience of a product used daily by thousands.

Clipboard Health addresses a critical need in healthcare staffing by providing fast, reliable, and user-friendly software for facilities to find nurses and nursing assistants. Design is integral to our success.

Responsibilities

• Engage regularly with customers to understand their needs and workflows.
• Design user interfaces based on product briefs, customer feedback, and business objectives.
• Collaborate with Product Managers (PMs) and engineers to define features and make informed trade-offs.
• Lead usability testing and analyze usage data to refine designs.
• Provide feedback during the implementation phase to ensure design integrity.
• Contribute to and advance our design system for efficient and consistent work.
• Improve existing features and user flows as part of ongoing product quality initiatives.
• Propose new product ideas informed by customer insights.

Requirements

• Strong UI and UX skills, demonstrated through a portfolio showcasing clear thinking and high-quality craft.
• Ability to evoke emotion through interaction and visual design.
• Capacity to work consistently across a large, complex product.
• Sound judgment regarding time allocation and the ability to work with speed.
• A customer-centric approach with a genuine desire to understand user challenges.
• Initiative and persistence to navigate ambiguity and successfully ship products.
• A bias for speed and responsiveness when collaborating with engineers and PMs.

How the Team Works

Designers are integrated into Product-Engineering pods (comprising 4-5 Engineers and 1 PM), each focusing on a specific business area. Each Designer partners with 1-2 pods, building long-term relationships with PMs and Engineers to gain deep context and enhance execution. The Design team is small but expanding, with Designers currently reporting to the Head of Engineering. A design lead will be hired as the team scales.

Hiring Process

Our hiring process emphasizes evaluating candidates based on their work, particularly projects representative of the tasks they would perform at Clipboard Health. We place significant value on case studies (sometimes referred to as take-home assignments). Due to high submission volumes, we may not be able to provide detailed feedback on every submission. The process includes:

• Portfolio review
• Design case study and accompanying interview
• Interview with the Head of Engineering
• Interview with our CEO

Compensation

• Estimated Annual Compensation: $120,000 - $200,000. The final compensation offer will be determined based on various factors, including relevant experience.
