Common questions about this position
Process Interns are paid an hourly rate equivalent to an annualized range of $105,000-126,000, depending on experience and education level. This assumes a 40-hour workweek and includes up to 10 hours of pre-approved weekly overtime at 1.5x the base rate; actual earnings vary by internship length and hours.
The role is based at the lab/office in San Francisco, CA, indicating it is an in-person position.
Required qualifications include pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in engineering, ability to learn quickly and troubleshoot, hands-on experience in a cleanroom or semiconductor lab fabricating wafers, experience with wafer fabrication tools (etch, deposition, patterning) and metrology tools (AFM, SEM, thin film measurement), and strong theoretical semiconductor knowledge.
Atomic Semi is an early-stage hardware startup building a small, fast semiconductor fab with a team of exceptional, hands-on engineers across mechanical, electrical, hardware, computer, and process disciplines. The culture emphasizes optimism, pushing technology limits, owning the full stack from atoms to architecture, and a belief that the team can build anything with in-house tools and invention.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in a semiconductor lab/cleanroom, intermediate to advanced process engineering knowledge (planar CMOS devices, CMOS fabrication), and familiarity with data processing in Python as a plus.
Compact semiconductor fabrication facility development
Atomic Semi develops compact semiconductor fabrication facilities, known as "fabs," to produce semiconductor chips used in various electronic devices like smartphones and computers. Their fabs are designed to be smaller and more efficient than traditional large-scale facilities, allowing for quicker adaptation to technological changes and market needs. This agility enables Atomic Semi to create advanced chips with smaller geometries, enhancing performance and efficiency. The company primarily serves tech companies across multiple industries, including consumer electronics and automotive, generating revenue through chip manufacturing and offering custom fabrication services. Atomic Semi's goal is to significantly impact the semiconductor market by providing high-quality, innovative chip solutions.
