Requirements

Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and hold an active license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in privacy and/or data security is required, ideally from an in-house legal role or a law firm's privacy practice. Strong knowledge and experience with HIPAA, HITECH, and relevant state privacy laws are essential, along with excellent communication, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Familiarity with emerging U.S. artificial intelligence (AI) regulations and guidance, experience with fast-growing healthcare technology companies, and professional certifications like CIPP, CHPS, or AIGP are preferred.

Responsibilities

The Privacy Counsel will provide solutions-oriented legal guidance on privacy matters, focusing on U.S. privacy and data protection laws including HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, and other state and federal regulations. Responsibilities include advising on matters involving PHI and PI, collaborating with cross-functional teams to mitigate privacy risks, assisting with contract negotiations for data protection terms, and supporting the development and implementation of internal privacy policies and training. The role also involves advising on incident response, monitoring regulatory developments, supporting responses to inquiries and audits, and contributing to the company's overall privacy strategy.
