Candidates must possess 15+ years of software engineering experience, either with equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, and have built and managed infrastructure platforms serving hundreds of engineers and millions of customers. A successful track record of leading and delivering multi-year, highly complex engineering infrastructure projects is required, along with demonstrated ability to develop and partner with staff and senior staff software engineers. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented with strong opinions on technologies and fully immersed in day-to-day execution and delivery, and possess exceptional leadership skills to mentor high-potential engineers. Experience in Fintech and Retail industries for both B2C and B2B is a plus, as is experience with developer environments, CI/CD pipelines, and implementing test frameworks.
The Principal Software Engineer will help set the technical vision and strategy for the platforms, frameworks, and services that enable every engineer at Affirm and serve every customer, providing technical guidance and influence in other areas of Engineering. They will lead technical teams and collaborate with the broader engineering organization to deliver solutions that improve reliability, lower costs, and enable developers, championing innovative, scalable, and delightful solutions. The role involves actively researching, brainstorming, prototyping, and presenting ideas, and promoting a strong culture of innovation, driving evaluation, development, and rollout of new technologies/frameworks. They will also effectively convey a clear vision, influence senior leadership, and lead fellow engineers to achieve impactful results, while communicating their technical vision to the broader engineering organization.
