Candidates should possess a BS, MS, or PhD degree in computer science or a related field. Experience with training and deploying deep learning models on sensor data is essential, along with familiarity with production machine learning pipelines including dataset creation and training frameworks. Strong mathematical skills and a solid understanding of probabilistic techniques are required. Fluency in C++ or fluency in Python with a basic understanding of C++ is necessary, along with extensive experience in programming and algorithm design. Publications in relevant fields and experience with autonomous robots, realtime sensor fusion, novel pipelines for convolutional neural networks, and 3D data representations are considered bonus qualifications.
The Principal Machine Learning Engineer will develop new algorithms to understand the scene around the robot and how that scene evolves over time. They will build multi-modal foundation models for both on-vehicle and offline applications, and create algorithms that apply generative AI to improve the realism of offline validation systems. The role involves leveraging large-scale machine learning infrastructure to discover new solutions, providing technical mentorship to ML developers at Zoox, and collaborating with engineers on Prediction, Planning, and Simulation to address the overall autonomous driving challenges in complex urban environments.
