Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent education and relevant experience
  • 5 to 8 years plus related experience in telecommunications, engineering, or network planning or equivalent
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in planning/engineering specifically with VoIP and TDM switching technologies
  • Experience with VoIP routing and switching products, SIP Peering, Wholesale Interconnect, SS7 Trunks, and End Office Switch Replacement
  • Understanding of switch technologies and protocols, along with layer 2 and layer 3 routing through the network
  • Familiarity with Ribbon Neptune equipment
  • Knowledgeable and able to work in appropriate systems and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with TIRKS
  • Ability to work with Planning, Operations, Labs, all internal customers, maintain budget, and assist with forecasting budgets
  • Ability to maintain positive interaction between all governing authorities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Supporting legacy voice (TDM) and new VoIP platform encompassing fiber voice, SIP-trunking, and circuit emulation technology
  • Monitoring and developing high-level plans for the platform
  • Assisting Engineering as they create detailed engineering designs with material and costing estimates and implement the design
  • Performing general voice planning functions, such as SS7 and 911 routing and diversity verification, TDM switch consolidation and decommission, and other voice/switch planning functions
  • Providing instructional plans and guidance to support VoIP on the Converged Services Platform (CSP)
  • Interacting with internal customers, vendors, suppliers and maintaining open conversation with engineering and all company departments to provide a high-quality platform
  • Guiding Engineering and Operations with defined plans for the implementation of new circuits and installation or modifications of existing facilities
  • Preparing high-level plans and specifications
  • Assuring that the most feasible, practical, and economical means to complete the work are considered and utilized
  • Providing cost data to support capital planning and budgeting
  • Collaborating with Engineering as they oversee the installation/construction and testing of plant facilities, in order to meet the required commitment dates
  • Assisting with circuit design that interconnects the new platform with the legacy environment; TDM switches, Metro Ethernet devices, etc
  • Monitoring the VoIP platform and initiating changes and enhancements as needed
