Requirements

Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from a medical school accredited by the American Medical Association or a Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) degree from a medical school accredited by the American Osteopathic Association
Board Certified or Board Eligible in a Primary Care Field
Completion of an approved program of residency training in family practice
Computer proficiency, particularly with Electronic Health/Medical Record systems

Responsibilities

Provide routine, acute, urgent, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative medical care to members of families, within the approved skills profile and/or scope of practice
Take detailed histories and perform complete physical examinations
Order or execute various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient’s condition
Analyze reports and findings of tests and examination and diagnose condition of patient
Make diagnoses (or differential diagnoses if a specific diagnosis is pending) for each patient, educate the patient and parents on the diagnosis, and institute treatment and follow-up care based on current standards of care, official guidelines, and evidence-based medicine
Administer or prescribe appropriate pharmacological agents and treatments
Discuss any possible side effects to medication or immunization with patient
