Responsibilities

  • Assessing the medical necessity of treatment requests based on evidence-based guidelines.
  • Evaluating cases using established standards such as MTUS and ODG.
  • Clearly articulating rationale in written determinations.

About the California IMR Process

IMR is a binding appeals process for disputes arising from the denial or modification of workers’ compensation treatment requests. Since July 1, 2013, all medical treatment disputes are resolved through IMR, streamlining the process significantly. In this system, if a treatment request is denied, delayed, or modified due to lack of medical necessity, the injured worker has the right to appeal via IMR.
