Position Overview

We are seeking a Pensions Manager for our Corporate Financial Services division, to be office-based from a UK site location (Solihull or Maidenhead are most ideal). This role will lead the in-house Pensions Team, providing essential support and information to Company Management, the Trustee Directors, and all active members of both pension schemes across multiple sites and business divisions.
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Lead the in-house Pensions Team, ensuring adequate support for members transitioning due to corporate acquisitions/divestments and those approaching retirement.
- Trustee Support: Act as Secretary to the Trustee of the Abbott Laboratories Pension Fund (1966), supporting the Chairman of the Trustee in delivering board objectives.
- Technical Expertise: Serve as a technical expert for both the Trustee Board and the Company, continuously assessing pension scheme requirements in light of evolving regulations and tax implications.
- Administration & Communication Management: Manage all aspects of pension administration and communication for the Abbott Laboratories Pension Fund (1966), Abbott Retirement Saver (2015) (including automatic enrolment), a closed DB scheme, and an open DC scheme in Ireland.
- Governance: Oversee all governance, support, and delivery aspects for the Trustee Board, including preparing, running, and minuting Trustee Meetings.
- Advisor Relationships: Lead representation in key relationships with professional advisors to both the Trustee and the Company, evaluating technical advice and monitoring administration performance.
- Member Communications: Lead the production of high-quality member communications for the Abbott Laboratories Pension Fund (1966) and Abbott Retirement Saver (2015), including oversight of the scheme website.
- Compliance & Training: Ensure compliance with legislation, regulation, and Regulator guidance. Coordinate training for the Trustee Board and maintain adequate internal financial controls and administrative procedures.
- Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation, audit, and sign-off of the Trustee’s Annual Report and Accounts within statutory deadlines.
- Risk Management: Lead the Trustee Board in operating Integrated Risk Management, including regular review of the Trustee Risk Register.
- Collaboration: Partner with HR and Payroll on benefit design and administration issues.
- Staff Management: Direct all activities of the pensions office staff, ensuring adequate resourcing, training, and development, including direct line management of one individual.
- Third-Party Management: Manage the activities of the third-party administrator for the Abbott Laboratories Pension Fund (1966) and the provider for the Abbott Retirement Saver (2015).
- Actuarial Valuations: Coordinate and evaluate detailed technical analysis supporting funding issues from triennial actuarial valuations.
- Budget Management: Manage Trustee expenditure exceeding £2 million annually, including budgetary negotiations.
- Dispute Resolution: Oversee the application of the Trustee Internal Dispute Resolution procedure for the Abbott Laboratories Pension Fund (1966) to ensure timely resolution of member complaints.
- US Parent Company Relations: Actively support the UK entity and the Trustee in the relationship with the US parent company.
