Requirements

Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations
Supports FMCNA mission, vision, core values, customer service philosophy, Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), and CQI activities
Ability to perform setup and operation of hemodialysis machines
Ability to assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
Knowledge of patient education topics including Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM), and disease process/access
Skills in vascular access evaluation, cannulation, vital signs measurement, weight assessment, heparin administration (as delegated or allowed by state law), initiating/discontinuing dialysis treatments, monitoring intradialytic problems, and ensuring safety alarms
Ability to calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for Ultrafiltration (UF) goal, treatment time, Sodium (Na) modeling, and UF modeling
Proficiency in accurate and timely documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
Effective communication skills for developing relationships, resolving customer service issues, and reporting findings to nurse supervisor

Responsibilities

Drives FMS culture through values and customer service standards, providing outstanding service to external and internal customers
Develops and maintains effective relationships through timely communication; responds, resolves, and follows up on customer service issues
Assists in providing patient-specific education on adequacy measures, disease process, and access
Welcomes assigned patients, inquires about well-being, reports complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
Evaluates vascular access for patency pre-treatment, reports unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Obtains pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight, reports unusual findings
Performs vascular access cannulation, reports difficulties/unusual findings
Administers Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
Initiates dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (e.g., blood flow QB, dialysate flow QD)
Evaluates intradialytic problems and intervenes as prescribed or directed
Monitors patients' response to dialysis therapy, reports unusual findings
Obtains vital signs prior to reinfusion, performs discontinuation functions, documents
Evaluates patient prior to venous access termination (standing/sitting BP), obtains hemostasis, applies dressings
Evaluates patient prior to discharge, reports unusual findings
Performs and records pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weights, vital signs with initial identification
Calculates and enters individual patient dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
Ensures appropriate safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits NVL 160)
Records accurate/timely vital signs and treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
Documents patient treatment information completely (Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes if applicable)
Reports significant information/changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
Observes patient and conducts machine safety checks
