Requirements

  • Functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team under direct supervision of a licensed nurse

  • Certification as PCT CCHT (implied by job title)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Welcome patients and inquire about well-being
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency and perform cannulation
  • Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weight, and blood pressure
  • Administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (QB, QD, UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide interventions as prescribed
  • Ensure safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits 160)
  • Record vital signs, treatment parameters, and documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
  • Report significant information, changes in patient condition, or unusual findings to PCT III or nurse supervisor
  • Perform and document machine safety checks and interventions for unusual patient status
  • Monitor vascular access during treatment (arterial/venous pressures) and provide interventions
  • Obtain prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens
  • Maintain environmental integrity: clean and disinfect machines, chairs, equipment, and areas between treatments
  • Perform pretreatment dialysis machine alarm testing (e.g., Pressure Hold)
  • Support Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, patient satisfaction, and process improvements
