Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Complies with corporation, state, and federal regulations
  • Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities
  • Actively participates in process improvement activities
  • Knowledge of patient education topics: Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM), disease process/access
  • Ability to evaluate vascular access for patency and perform cannulation
  • Ability to administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Ability to calculate and enter dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Sodium modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ability to perform and record pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, vital signs, weights
  • Skilled in documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
  • Ability to monitor patients, respond to intradialytic problems, and conduct machine safety checks

Responsibilities

  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards
  • Provide outstanding customer service to external and internal customers
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships through communication
  • Respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues timely
  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures and disease process/access
  • Welcome patients, inquire about well-being, report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluate vascular access pre-treatment, report unusual findings
  • Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights, report unusual findings
  • Perform vascular access cannulation, report difficulties
  • Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (blood flow QB, dialysate flow QD)
  • Monitor patient response to dialysis, intervene per physician order, report unusual findings
  • Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion, perform treatment discontinuation functions, document
  • Discontinue dialysis per procedures
  • Evaluate patient prior to venous access termination (standing/sitting BP)
  • Obtain hemostasis, apply dressings
  • Evaluate patient prior to discharge, report unusual findings
  • Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis programming
  • Ensure safety alarms enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits NVL 160)
  • Record vital signs and treatment parameters accurately and timely
  • Document patient treatment information completely
  • Report significant information or patient condition changes to nurse supervisor
  • Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks
  • Setup and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Assist in maintaining safe and clean working environment
