Requirements

Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory requirements, FMS policies, procedures, and training
Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
Complies with corporation, state, and federal agency regulations
Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities, including patient satisfaction and process improvement
Knowledge of hemodialysis machines setup and operation
Ability to perform vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and heparin administration as delegated or allowed by state law
Skills in monitoring patient response to dialysis therapy, vital signs, weights, and intradialytic interventions
Capable of accurate documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
Ability to calculate and enter dialysis machine programming (e.g., UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
Ensures safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits)

Responsibilities

Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provide outstanding service to external and internal customers
Develop and maintain effective relationships via timely communication; resolve customer service issues
Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
Welcome patients, inquire about well-being, report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment; perform cannulation; report unusual findings
Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights; report unusual findings
Administer heparin as delegated; initiate dialysis per orders (QB, QD)
Monitor intradialytic problems, intervene per physician orders; monitor patient response to therapy
Perform vital signs prior to reinfusion; discontinue treatment per procedures; evaluate prior to discharge
Obtain hemostasis, apply dressings; perform/record pre/post dialysis evaluations
Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis programming
Record vital signs and parameters accurately on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet
Document treatment information; report significant changes to nurse supervisor
Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks
Assist in maintaining safe and clean working environment
