Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory requirements, FMS policies, procedures, and training
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Complies with corporation, state, and federal agency regulations
  • Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities, including patient satisfaction and process improvement
  • Knowledge of hemodialysis machines setup and operation
  • Ability to perform vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and heparin administration as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Skills in monitoring patient response to dialysis therapy, vital signs, weights, and intradialytic interventions
  • Capable of accurate documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
  • Ability to calculate and enter dialysis machine programming (e.g., UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ensures safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits)

Responsibilities

  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provide outstanding service to external and internal customers
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships via timely communication; resolve customer service issues
  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Welcome patients, inquire about well-being, report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment; perform cannulation; report unusual findings
  • Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights; report unusual findings
  • Administer heparin as delegated; initiate dialysis per orders (QB, QD)
  • Monitor intradialytic problems, intervene per physician orders; monitor patient response to therapy
  • Perform vital signs prior to reinfusion; discontinue treatment per procedures; evaluate prior to discharge
  • Obtain hemostasis, apply dressings; perform/record pre/post dialysis evaluations
  • Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis programming
  • Record vital signs and parameters accurately on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet
  • Document treatment information; report significant changes to nurse supervisor
  • Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks
  • Assist in maintaining safe and clean working environment
