Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory requirements, FMS policies, procedures, and training
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Compliance with corporation, state, and federal agency regulations
  • Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities, including patient satisfaction and process improvement
  • Ability to perform vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and report findings
  • Ability to obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights
  • Ability to administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Knowledge of dialysis treatment initiation, including blood flow (QB) and dialysate flow (QD)
  • Ability to monitor patients during intradialytic problems and provide interventions as prescribed
  • Ability to discontinue dialysis treatment, evaluate hemostasis, apply dressings, and perform pre-discharge evaluations
  • Ability to calculate and enter dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Sodium modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ability to enable safety alarms (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits - NVL 160)
  • Accurate and timely documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
  • Ability to observe patients and conduct machine safety checks
  • Effective communication and relationship-building for customer service
  • Initiative in resolving customer service issues

Responsibilities

  • Supports FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy
  • Drives FMS culture through values and customer service standards
  • Provides outstanding customer service to external and internal customers
  • Assists in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Welcomes patients, inquires about well-being, and reports complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluates vascular access for patency pre-treatment
  • Performs vascular access cannulation
  • Obtains pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights; reports unusual findings
  • Initiates dialysis treatment per prescribed orders
  • Evaluates and intervenes in intradialytic problems per physician orders
  • Monitors patient response to dialysis and reports unusual findings
  • Obtains vital signs prior to reinfusion and performs treatment discontinuation functions
  • Evaluates patient prior to termination of venous access (standing/sitting BP)
  • Obtains hemostasis and applies dressings
  • Performs and records pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weights, and vital signs
  • Calculates and enters patient-specific dialysis programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ensures safety alarms are enabled
  • Records vital signs and treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet
  • Documents patient treatment information accurately
  • Reports significant information or patient condition changes to nurse supervisor
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
  • Sets up and operates hemodialysis machines
