Job Description

Position Overview

This role involves reviewing tissue cases for accuracy, performing data entry, and assisting colleagues with case resolution. The position requires excellent communication skills and attention to detail to ensure the integrity of patient data and efficient workflow.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Review select cases for accuracy of tissue request and escalate to Pathologists' Assistants (PAs) when needed.
  • Complete accurate data entry for all cases.
  • Assist other PSCs (Pathology Support Coordinators) in resolving case issues and provide feedback on work quality.
  • Ensure necessary notes and holds are placed on cases for non-conforming samples, discrepancies, or missing information to facilitate timely follow-up by the Customer Care team.
  • Compose professional emails and faxes with proper grammar and spelling to communicate with other departments for case escalation and status updates.
  • Perform outbound calls to pathology labs for specimen information (e.g., confirmation of accession numbers, specimen locations, pathology fax numbers, address confirmation).
  • Attend interdepartmental meetings as needed and provide feedback on current processes or workflows.
  • Monitor errors and metrics for all tissue cases.
  • Handle Protected Health Information (PHI) regularly in both paper and electronic forms, using various technologies to access PHI.
  • Complete HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance, and security training within the first 30 days of hire.
  • Maintain current status on Natera training requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years of experience in the medical industry.
  • Previous computer experience required.
  • Previous data entry experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Trained on all product types and able to accession with high accuracy and efficiency consistently.
  • Ability to handle most escalations, discrepancies, and holds.
  • Firm understanding and knowledgeable in all aspects of the Accessioning process and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Typing speed of at least 45 words per minute with high accuracy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to use good judgment.
  • Ability to perform required duties with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well with others.
