Clinical Applications Specialist - Next-Generation Sequencing

Employment Type: Full-time Work Schedule: Standard (Mon-Fri) Location Type: Remotely based in Colorado, Missouri, or Kansas Travel: Estimated 50-75%

Position Overview

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a motivated Clinical Applications Specialist with a strong background in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Diagnostics Informatics. This role is part of a field-based team dedicated to supporting the clinical testing market. You will play a crucial role in enabling customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer by supporting our Thermo Fisher Scientific/Ion Torrent product portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary support for Clinical Laboratories, including training, validation, and troubleshooting for Thermo Fisher Scientific/Ion Torrent NGS products.
  • Promote clinical solutions to existing customers and at conferences/user meetings.
  • Lead the implementation of assays, products, and clinical solutions at customer sites.
  • Enhance customer value and satisfaction by aligning complex product solutions and services with key customer initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and influencers within customer organizations and with Thermo Fisher Scientific collaborating partners.
  • Review and assist customers with the analysis of their Ion Torrent data using Torrent Suite and Ion Reporter software packages.
  • Help customers design and conduct experiments to evaluate Ion Torrent/Thermo Fisher products.
  • Provide initial training to customers at their own CLIA/GLP laboratories and at Thermo Fisher training locations.
  • Understand CAP/CLIA NYS Guidelines for Laboratory Developed Tests.
  • Provide technical and applications assistance in response to customer inquiries.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Account Managers to develop optimal support strategies for each customer.
  • Maintain and develop the CRM database.
  • Ensure consistent and structured communication with counterparts and provide summarized updates to management.
  • Drive successful adoption of technology within applied markets and explore potential new applications and solutions.
  • Align with other internal company teams on a regular basis.

Requirements

Education

  • BA/BS with 2+ years of relevant experience, or MS degree in Life Sciences.
  • PhD preferred.

Experience

  • Experience in NGS sequencing, Capillary Electrophoresis, qPCR, and RT-PCR.
  • Understanding of healthcare industry standards, guidelines, and environments.
  • Previous experience as an Applications Specialist is desirable.
  • Clinical Laboratory experience/MLT is a plus.

  • Technically savvy individual capable of assessing customer clinical needs and implementing training/experimental approaches.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Proven problem-solving ability.

Environmental Conditions

  • Laboratory Setting
  • Requires a degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs, etc.
  • Various outside weather conditions.
  • Will work with hazardous/toxic materials.
