Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of paralegal experience, with the possibility of substituting a certificate of paralegal studies from an American Bar Association-approved program for the Bachelor’s degree. Preferred experience includes corporate governance within a regulated entity, such as a bank or life insurance company, along with strong analytical skills, good judgment, and the ability to exercise sound recommendations. Superior written and oral communication skills are required, alongside the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
The Sr. Paralegal Specialist will provide legal support to business clients and stakeholders under the direction of the Vice President – Enterprise Governance Counsel, applying legal concepts to deliver efficient legal support to the Northwestern Mutual Corporate Secretary and Vice President – Enterprise Governance Counsel and Board of Trustees. They will act as a resource and provide guidance to Board members and executives, ensuring effective Board meetings and governance functions. The role involves mentoring colleagues, researching best practices, recommending solutions, responding to information requests, managing schedules and deadlines, administering the electronic Board portal, coordinating the annual Disclosure Questionnaire, developing new processes, and performing general paralegal functions including regulatory reporting and maintaining corporate records.
