Responsibilities

  • Independently assess, diagnose, prescribe medications and treat patients according to the established protocols in collaboration with physicians
  • Function within the scope of practice as defined by the state nurses practice act, delineation of privileges set forth by the practice setting and the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics
  • Provide triage referral coordination
  • Develop differential diagnosis and individualized care plans
  • Provide patient education for specific disease types as appropriate
  • Provide the range of treatment or service needed by the patient based on the patient’s age specific and acute/chronic or health maintenance needs
  • Conduct history and physical exams
  • Provide consultations and referrals
  • Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests
  • Provide pharmacologic interventions, where clinically indicated, in accordance with the established joint protocols and APN prescribing guidelines
  • Perform therapeutic treatments, including wound care
  • Perform suturing
  • Perform and assist with minor office procedures
  • Perform drain removal
