The ideal candidate possesses expert-level knowledge of the entire mortgage lending process, detailed underwriting knowledge specific to loan requirements, and a comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and regulatory guidelines related to residential mortgage lending. They should have 10+ years of experience in underwriting and managing underwriting teams across diverse loan types, including Conventional, Jumbo, NON-QM, and GOVT, for both purchase and refinance transactions. A proven track record in developing underwriting workflows, SOPs, SLAs, and QC measures is required. The candidate must be a visionary leader comfortable operating in a highly regulated industry while optimizing for performance, with a compliance-first lens. They should also be proficient in building scalable software-first solutions and have the ability to oversee numerous third-party fulfillment partners, ensuring high quality and on-time originations.
The Mortgage Underwriting Manager will develop and implement underwriting workflows, SOPs, SLAs, and QC measures to ensure high-quality and efficient loan underwriting. They will regularly access and enhance underwriting systems for smooth file flow, high quality, regulatory compliance, and efficiency. This role involves overseeing day-to-day operations with fulfillment partners, ensuring consistent loan delivery, and defining and monitoring productivity standards and performance goals. The manager will conduct second-level reviews, handle exceptions, and manage escalations for quality control. They will act as a subject matter expert, aiding decision-making and driving product improvement, while working closely with internal teams, partners, and engineering to optimize the fulfillment infrastructure. Additionally, they will provide technical and guideline training, recommend areas of improvement, and conduct ongoing training as needed, while maintaining a comprehensive understanding of mortgage origination and regulations to ensure compliance.
