Requirements

  • Live within a 45-minute reporting time of the North Charleston Service Center, 404 29th Street W, Charleston, WV 25387
  • Associate's Degree in electrical/electronic technology (equivalent limited to military training and work experience of technical/technician nature, such as aviation and nuclear instrumentation technician)
  • State Driver License
  • Must possess and maintain a medical certification card, if determined to be required by law
  • Within 24 months of employment, successfully complete the Company's training and qualification program (classroom instruction, written examination, job mentoring, job performance demonstrations)
  • Work overtime as needed, including extended daily shifts and weekends
  • Work late shifts as needed
  • Work independently under semi-direct supervision in a safe, efficient, and productive manner
  • Proficiently use computers and applications related to the position
  • Effectively communicate with other employees, customers, and the general public in a courteous and appropriate manner
  • Promote a positive image of the Company to customers and the general public
  • Comply with all aspects of the AEP Corporate Code of Conduct
  • Report hazards and abnormal conditions
  • Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees

Responsibilities

  • Read meters as required for field order and on schedule for cycle billing
  • Install, remove, change disconnect, and reconnect meters
  • Test single phase, network, and polyphase self-contained meters for proper operation and accuracy
  • Program meters
  • Perform Credit and Collections related orders including disconnect and reconnect for non-payment
  • Investigate irregular usage
  • Investigate energy diversion
  • Repair meters, meter sockets, and meter enclosures
  • Order, receive, ship, store, and inventory meter and associated equipment
  • Investigate self-contained service power quality problems, install event recorders, neutral testers, and produce reports
  • Perform work from ladders and elevated platforms
  • Install and maintain self-contained electric meters energized up to 240 volts in the shop and on customer premises
