Bachelor’s Degree required (or equivalent in work experience), preferably in Agriculture, Business, Finance, Economics or related major
2-5 years’ of experience required in commodity merchandising, originations, or trading
Intermediate knowledge and experience in own discipline; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
Ability to solve a range of straightforward problems using standard procedures
Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction
Responsibilities
Manage the buying and selling activities for assigned commodities
Develop deeper understanding of supply and demand, survey market conditions, and analyze other economic forces in order to establish position in the market
Initiate, negotiate and agree on terms of commodity purchase/sale contracts, such as price, quality, quantity, transportation, timing and payment
Arrange efficient transportation of commodities, both by truck and rail
Ensure thorough and accurate follow-up, execution, and closure to all contracts
Research and identify new customers and/or suppliers as well as develop and maintain regular communication to build and grow current customer relationships
Analyze commodity markets to identify trading opportunities
Gain basic understanding of arbitrage, macro-environmental factors that impact the supply and demand of commodities, and logistics process and decision making
Complete all responsibilities in compliance with all safety protocols, policies, procedures and consistent with the spirit and philosophy of The Andersons’ Statement of Principles
