Requirements
- Certified as a Medication Aide in the State of Iowa (required)
- Certified Nurse Aide Certification (preferred, but not required)
- High school diploma or GED (preferred)
- Experience working with the elderly population (preferred, but not required)
- Must follow CDC legal and ethical guidelines, state regulations, resident’s rights, and organization policies for medication distribution
- Must be knowledgeable about medications or able to research information
- Must know special physical conditions of residents that might affect medication reactions
Responsibilities
- Under supervision of the charge nurse, provides assistance with distribution of medications to residents
- Assists with Care Assistant responsibilities as needed
- Receives work assignments from Charge Nurse, including assisting with medication pass, obtaining vital signs and blood glucose readings, and other duties within scope of practice
- Stays current on resident care plans, reviews report sheets and new interventions at beginning of shift and as needed
- Observes residents and notes physical condition, attitude, reactions, appetite, etc
- Acts as leader and mentor to fellow team members
- Reports any changes or unusual findings to Charge Nurse
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
