Requirements

  • Studying towards an Engineering Degree (including General, Mechanical, Production/Manufacturing, Aeronautical/Aerospace, and Electrical/Electronics), or Physics, Astronomy, Materials Science, or Technology Degree discipline
  • Able to achieve required medical and national security clearance for the role

Responsibilities

  • Work in different areas of Mechanical Engineering across two 5-month placements
  • Potential involvement in Mechanical Design: all stages from concept development through to manufacture using CAD tools, and laboratory test programs
  • Potential involvement in Mechanical Future Concepts: early stages of product lifecycle from concept generation to R&D studies
  • Potential involvement in Mechanical Analysis: develop specialist technical solutions using FEA tools and laboratory testing for stress and thermal analysis on structures and mechanical systems
  • Potential involvement in Actuation Systems: electro-mechanical design of fin, wing, and seeker actuation systems within a multi-disciplinary, possibly international team
  • Potential involvement in Materials and Processes: advise design teams on materials science principles, evaluate material compatibility, conduct research on novel materials, and practical lab-based assessments
  • Apply university learning to real-world engineering projects and technologies, with hands-on interaction with hardware, rapid prototyping, external manufacture, assembly builds, and laboratory tests
