Requirements

Currently studying towards a Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering or other related subject

Responsibilities

Gain hands-on work experience interacting with hardware, using rapid prototyping facilities, participating in external manufacture, assembly builds, and laboratory tests
Work collaboratively with other departments on common projects supported by technical specialists
Depending on placement area:
Mechanical Design: Involved in all stages of design from concept development through to manufacture using CAD tools; participate in laboratory test programs
Mechanical Future Concepts: Experience in early stages of product lifecycle from concept generation to R&D studies
Mechanical Analysis: Develop specialist technical solutions using FEA tools and laboratory testing to conduct detailed stress and thermal analysis on structures and mechanical systems
Actuation Systems: Work in multi-disciplinary team on electro-mechanical design of fin, wing, and seeker actuation systems; possibly in cross-discipline, international team
Materials and Processes: Advise design teams on materials science principles, evaluate ideas for material compatibility; involved in research of novel materials and practical lab assessments
