Requirements

  • Currently studying towards a Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering or other related subject

Responsibilities

  • Gain hands-on work experience interacting with hardware, using rapid prototyping facilities, participating in external manufacture, assembly builds, and laboratory tests
  • Work collaboratively with other departments on common projects supported by technical specialists
  • Depending on placement area:
  • Mechanical Design: Involved in all stages of design from concept development through to manufacture using CAD tools; participate in laboratory test programs
  • Mechanical Future Concepts: Experience in early stages of product lifecycle from concept generation to R&D studies
  • Mechanical Analysis: Develop specialist technical solutions using FEA tools and laboratory testing to conduct detailed stress and thermal analysis on structures and mechanical systems
  • Actuation Systems: Work in multi-disciplinary team on electro-mechanical design of fin, wing, and seeker actuation systems; possibly in cross-discipline, international team
  • Materials and Processes: Advise design teams on materials science principles, evaluate ideas for material compatibility; involved in research of novel materials and practical lab assessments
