Requirements

  • College science degree preferred (suitable experience may be substituted)
  • Two (2) years’ experience as a Senior Lab Technician
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-starting abilities
  • Ability to handle complex non-routine tasks with minimal supervision
  • Advanced problem-solving skills
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop and write new procedures or revise old procedures with minimal supervision
  • Detailed knowledge of laboratory equipment and plant operations
  • Superior physical, mental, and visual attention
  • Trained and knowledgeable in handling and disposing of RCRA hazardous wastes per regulatory requirements
  • Fully certified on Master Level Lab Technician procedures within 12 months of promotion and recertified biennially
  • Proficiency and training ability in HPLC and GC
  • Not on probation for promotion consideration
  • All skills and abilities of Senior-level Laboratory Technician
  • Good leadership ability

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced laboratory services with no supervision or direction
  • Provide problem-solving work in a variety of areas, often more complex than less senior technicians
  • Provide immediate supervision to Entry and Mid-Level Lab Technicians as instructed by the Quality Supervisor
  • Handle routine supervisory tasks (e.g., timecards, lab coverage, procedural/policy compliance) in supervisor’s absence
  • Keep Quality Supervisor informed of situations beyond capabilities, such as progressive discipline
  • Anticipate problems and train new staff members for quality control program success
  • Assure accurate completion of tests to minimize retests
  • Understand and follow lab, company, plant, and divisional quality policies
  • Properly identify, categorize, isolate, remediate, and containerize RCRA hazardous waste from production areas per regulations
  • Ensure personnel under leadership are trained for hazardous waste handling tasks
  • Keep lab prepared by standardizing reagents and notifying Supervisor of supply shortages
  • Notify Supervisor of discrepancies in results or analytical problems
  • Provide Supervisor with information to maintain laboratory accuracy and response
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on instruments
  • Play active role in Division and Plant safety and quality programs
  • Perform or oversee delegated responsibilities on a regular basis
  • Serve as main source for training
  • Assume Quality Supervisor duties in absence of management
  • Assist in lab improvements on a regular basis
  • Assist production with calculation verifications, blending opportunities, etc
  • Act upon any uncompleted tasks needing completion, even outside delegated responsibilities
