Requirements

  • Expertise in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance, packaging regulations, and emerging legislation across global markets
  • Strong analytical skills for developing internal reporting, analytics on EPR exposure, cost drivers, forecasting, and mitigation planning
  • Knowledge of packaging material science, industry trends, and circular economy solutions (e.g., reuse, compostable/recyclable formats, secondary packaging optimization)
  • Experience leading innovation pilots, testing circularity solutions, and capturing performance data with merchandising, operations, and customers
  • Ability to build business cases, influence supplier packaging specifications, and drive cost reduction initiatives (e.g., Pack-a-Thon, Supplier Sustainability Summit)
  • Proven cross-functional collaboration skills with Legal, Finance, Sustainability teams, category management, and global stakeholders
  • Capability to act as subject matter expert on packaging innovation and represent packaging/circularity in working groups
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% and work hybrid (in-office Mon-Wed, remote Thu-Fri) in Houston, TX

Responsibilities

  • Lead EPR compliance reporting and strategy across markets, tracking legislation and translating into supplier/merchandising actions
  • Develop internal reporting/analytics on EPR exposure/cost drivers; partner with Legal/Finance for forecasting and mitigation
  • Identify high-risk packaging designs/materials under EPR and lead mitigation with internal/external partners
  • Partner with suppliers, category teams, external innovators to identify, test, and scale circular packaging solutions and pilots
  • Design/lead packaging pilots, collaborating with merchandising, operations, customers to test and measure circularity performance
  • Stay current on packaging trends and serve as Sysco’s SME on innovation opportunities
  • Run supplier initiatives like Pack-a-Thon and Sustainability Summit; build cases to redesign packaging for lower costs
  • Influence packaging specs/sourcing via category/Partnership Growth Management processes
  • Collaborate with global/regional Sustainability teams on priorities (e.g., waste, emissions, sourcing)
  • Share best practices/insights in global forums to strengthen sustainability strategy/product roadmap
  • Represent packaging/circularity in cross-functional groups and stakeholder engagement
