Requirements

  • Serve as people manager and hands-on technical lead for multiple power systems sub-systems and 1-3 design engineers
  • Experience in engineering development, requirements generation, regulatory compliance, cost management, DFMEA, CAD/drawings, component selection, tolerance stack analyses, GD&T, design reviews, supplier selection, and DFM analysis
  • Proficiency in testing and analysis, including creating DVPs, performing thermal/structural analyses, building prototypes, EV testing, and troubleshooting HALT/vehicle failures
  • Knowledge of build, production, and aftersales support, including work instructions, DFA analysis, first article inspections, and supporting prototype/production builds (10-15% time in Broomfield, CO factory) and field service
  • Team management and leadership skills, including hosting core team meetings, creating timelines/schedules, and collaborating cross-functionally
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with high integrity, autonomy, and creativity

Responsibilities

  • Work with Product and Design teams to develop high-level product requirements and lower-level engineering requirements for sub-systems (solar array, custom power systems junction boxes, lighting, OTS devices, propulsion systems, thermal systems)
  • Review regulatory requirements and ensure components meet them
  • Work with supply chain and finance to meet cost targets
  • Perform DFMEA to identify reliability/safety issues, create design fixes, and drive test plans
  • Create timelines/schedules for subsystem development aligned with program milestones
  • Create detailed CAD and drawings; collaborate with CAD/PLM team for packaging and releases
  • Select off-the-shelf components meeting functional, durability, cost, and quality needs
  • Create tolerance stack analyses and apply GD&T controls
  • Hold design reviews with cross-functional teams
  • Host core team meetings for collaboration
  • Work with supply chain on supplier selection and DFM analysis
  • Create DVPs with test engineering team
  • Perform necessary analyses (thermal, structural) to reduce risks and meet targets
  • Build functional prototypes for early de-risking
  • Perform EV testing to characterize performance/safety
  • Troubleshoot issues from HALT and vehicle tests with test engineering
  • Create work instructions with production teams via DFA analysis
  • Perform first article inspections and triage quality issues with in-house quality engineering
  • Support prototype and production builds in Broomfield, CO factory (10-15% time)
  • Support field service engineering for customer/marketing vehicles
  • Be the technical lead for electrical hardware engineering
