Requirements

  • Previous experience of plant operated machines (Grinders, CNC machines, Press, Heat Treatment etc.), fork/pallet truck, cranes and lifting equipment
  • The ability to make adjustments to machines throughout the manufacturing process
  • Experience of the use of measuring equipment (dimensional gauges, plug and dial gauges), visual recognition of defects
  • Ability to complete accurate weighing & recording of operational scrap
  • Familiarity with scrap recording, asset care sheets, shift logbook, changeover sheets
  • Basic understanding of the use of simple hand tools with mechanical aptitude
  • Working in a Grinding, CNC, Press, Heat treatment environment essential
  • Setting & fault-finding experience essential
  • Some level of mechanical engineering apprenticeship preferred but not essential
  • Forklift truck licence preferred but not essential
  • Previously worked in an environment of continuous improvement and lean activities
  • Safety awareness, including correct abort procedures in case of equipment failure, and care when operating Forklift truck and Overhead Cranes

Responsibilities

  • Operating various machines within the manufacturing cells, including changeovers, machine condition and setting, whilst working safely and maintaining quality against standards
  • Responsible for all aspects of setting, condition setting for jobs and condition alteration to remedy quality issues
  • Work on own initiative and use own judgment in absence of technician; always compliant with RA/SOPs/work standards
  • Maintain department KPI’s (5s, scrap reduction, inventory, safety and productivity) to factory set targets, with increased responsibility for designated equipment
  • Perform daily/weekly asset care checks on all machinery and record for maintenance records
  • Completion of all relevant safety and quality checks throughout the process in accordance with Stanley Black and Decker standards
  • Manufacture a range of products/parts to the required standard for other departments or third-party affiliates
  • Ensure all work produced is to the required standard by hourly visual inspection and accurately recording scrap generated
  • Assist in the maintenance of department tooling and equipment; identify and where possible remedy minor repairs to machinery
  • Carry out all duties necessary to achieve department goals, production targets and forecasts
  • Occasionally assist Technicians in other duties
  • Flexible approach to shift working and overtime, including weekend cover during production peaks, colleague holidays and absences
  • Adhere to site health & safety protocols
  • Carry out general duties when requested
  • Assist in the training of others if required
  • Ensure safety of others by knowing abort procedures, maintaining safe and clean environment, and proper operation of equipment
