Position Overview

  • Location Type: Remote

  • Salary: $59,300 - $80,900 per year
  • Bonus Incentive: Eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on company and/or individual performance.

This role involves computing rates for group life and disability accounts, both renewing and prospective. The Life & Disability Financial Underwriter will prepare offers for small and mid-market clients, primarily focusing on Life, AD&D, Short Term, and Long Term Disability opportunities. Key aspects of the role include providing rationale and support to Sales, clients, and internal teams regarding risk selection, financial analysis, rate computations, and financial activity. The underwriter will also provide expense estimates and analyze financial exhibits. This position requires understanding departmental, segment, and organizational strategies and making decisions regarding work methods with minimal direction, following established guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Two or more years of experience in Life, AD&D, Short Term, and Long Term Disability underwriting and risk analysis
  • Comprehensive understanding of risk pool management and manual rating
  • Knowledge of the competitor landscape
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
  • Passion for contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences
  • Customer service orientation
  • Strong analysis and evaluation experience with the ability to negotiate with field partners and present recommendations to leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Large Group experience rating for Life and Disability
  • Industry-related coursework is preferred but not required
  • Experience with other Employee Benefits such as Dental and Vision is beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Compute rates for group life and disability accounts.
  • Prepare offers for prospective and renewal clients in the small and mid-market segments.
  • Provide rationale and support for risk selection, financial analysis, rate computations, and financial activity.
  • Provide expense estimates and accurate analysis of financial exhibits.
  • Interpret and independently determine appropriate courses of action for varied work assignments.
  • Make decisions regarding own work methods, occasionally in ambiguous situations.
  • Follow established guidelines and procedures.
