  • Basic Qualifications
  • Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
  • Bachelor’s degree in weld engineering, materials science or engineering, or related field
  • 6+ years of experience performing as a weld engineer for aerospace, defense, or automotive applications
  • Direct experience with automated/robotic welding, laser welding, or aluminum welding
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or doctorate in weld engineering, materials science or engineering, or related field
  • Experience with new product implementation in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Expertise in welding processes such as MIG, TIG, laser beam, friction stir, or resistance welding
  • Knowledge of aerospace alloys including aluminum, nickel, and stainless steel alloys
  • Proficiency in CAD software for fixture design and layout
  • Familiarity with AWS, MIL, and ISO welding standards and codes

Responsibilities

  • Lead weld development including evaluation, down selection, and procurement of weld technologies
  • Design and develop welded joints, processes, and parameters for a variety of alloy systems and applications
  • Write and implement procedures and qualification plans for weld processes
  • Characterize weld performance for designs through mechanical testing and metallographic analysis
  • Establish weld quality control requirements to conform to aerospace and defense standards
  • Coordinate with cross-function team of automation, design, and manufacturing engineers to implement welded joints into production
