Requirements

Candidates should have 8+ years of experience contributing to design teams and a Bachelor's degree and/or Master's degree, or equivalent in related work experience. Strong skills in crafting compelling stories, mentoring other designers, using evaluative and generative research methods, creative vision with the ability to switch between ideation and tactical thinking, and highly skilled prototyping are essential. Familiarity with content consumption, publishing, education, news, games/edu-tainment, emerging tech, younger audiences, in-person and remote research, Free Knowledge and/or Open Source communities, and speaking multiple languages are a plus. Availability for mandatory design team meetings and synchronous collaboration during specific UTC hours is required.

Responsibilities

The Lead UX Designer will reduce complexity to create simple, delightful experiences from Wikimedia projects. They will create prototypes and run experiments to iteratively test hypotheses, use and evolve the design system and guidelines to create new features, and apply accessibility standards and guidelines to designs. Responsibilities also include collaborating with product managers and engineers on product plans and design processes, distilling complex concepts into easy-to-understand talking points, working with leaders to improve tactical and operational processes, and mentoring colleagues within the team.
