Candidates should have 8+ years of experience contributing to design teams and a Bachelor's or Master's degree, or equivalent related work experience. Experience mentoring other designers, using evaluative and generative research methods, and strong prototyping skills are essential. Familiarity with content consumption, publishing, education, news, games/edu-tainment, emerging tech, younger audiences, and Free Knowledge/Open Source communities is a plus. Availability for mandatory weekly design team meetings and synchronous collaboration during specific UTC hours is required.
The Lead UX Designer will reduce complexity to create simple, delightful experiences for Wikimedia projects. They will create prototypes, run experiments, and iteratively test hypotheses. Responsibilities include using and evolving the design system, applying accessibility standards, and collaborating with product managers and engineers on product plans and processes. The role involves distilling complex concepts into easy-to-understand talking points, improving tactical and operational processes, and mentoring colleagues.
