Requirements
- Strong experience of using infrastructure as code and working with immutable infrastructure and configuration tools such as Terraform and Ansible to achieve end-to-end automation
- Good knowledge of Programming, scripting, functional and Performance testing tools (Python/BASH/Cucumber/JMeter/Gatling)
- Hands on experience of working with UNIX environments, Load balancers, GTM's
- Excellent hands-on experience of working with some of the Observability tools (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Datadog, Splunk)
- Strong knowledge of Cloud Platforms, Orchestration (designing infrastructure deployment patterns within AWS/Kubernetes/OpenShift)
- Good working knowledge of database or streaming platform, in particular strong knowledge in at least one of Kafka or Postgres
- Ability to manage multiple high priority efforts/ competing priorities and flexibility to adjust to changing requirements, schedules and priorities
- Real interest in documentation - Ability to document technical problems and postmortems accurately
Responsibilities
- Joining the SRE team responsible for managing the Digital Payments platform of Discover, a Global Payments network
- Improving the reliability of platforms supporting Digital wallets and payments platforms running high volume transactions
- Working with multiple, geographically distributed, development teams to diagnose performance, reliability and security issues in applications and system design
- Engaging with development teams and doing a thorough forensic analysis of system design and data flows and highlighting any resiliency gaps of services
- Working alongside the wider payments reliability teams and across Discover and CapitalOne to ensure following similar design patterns and avoiding duplicated work
- Working with technology suppliers to ensure interfacing systems are following best practices which have been defined
- Mentoring SRE and developers to help them design the right solutions and promote a culture of reliability and automation and contributing to Best Practices
