- Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Digital Arts or equivalent experience (preferred)
- Working knowledge of Maya and XGen (required)
- Excellent knowledge of Zbrush and/or Mudbox
- Mari, 3ds Max, V-Ray, and Nuke experience (plus)
- Excellent technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Experience working on creatures, digital doubles, topology, and blend shapes (preferred)
- Eye for detail and able to QA their own work to ensure the highest quality before assets handoff
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills; experience working under tight deadlines
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as a team player
- A clear understanding of color space, shading, lighting, and rendering methodologies
- Strong understanding of the visual effects pipeline
- Excellent technical and artistic skills
- Ability to mentor and guide junior artists
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of CFX Groom artists, providing clear guidance, feedback, and technical support
- Create high-quality hair, fur, and feather grooms for characters and creatures, adhering to artistic and technical specifications
- Develop and implement efficient grooming workflows, tools, and pipelines
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to grooming, including simulation, texturing, rendering and integration
- Optimize grooms for performance and memory efficiency without compromising visual fidelity
- Collaborate closely with various departments, including modeling, surfacing and internal CFX setup artists to ensure seamless integration of groom into the pipeline
- Collaborate with CFX Department Supervisor/s and Show Supervisor/s to maintain a high standard of quality and consistency across all CFX assets in the project
- Contribute to the development of departmental best practices and documentation
- Participate in bidding and scheduling discussions as needed
- Ensure that all CFX work adheres to project deadlines and budget constraints
- Mentor and train junior groom artists, fostering their growth and development
