Requirements

  • Proficiency in one or more approved programming languages (Java, Scala, Python, R)
  • Understanding and active adherence to foundational programming principles (best practices, unit tests, code organization, basics of CI/CD)
  • Expertise in one or more areas: machine learning, probability theory & statistics, optimization theory, simulation, econometrics, deep learning, natural language processing, or computer vision
  • Ability to design, implement, and optimize AI solutions in production
  • Experience with best practices in software design, code reviews, creating maintainable and well-tested codebases with relevant documentation
  • Proficiency in data analysis and data understanding
  • Ability to own design and implementation of algorithmic solutions (e.g., recommendation or forecasting algorithms), including data understanding, feature engineering, model development, validation, testing, and deployment to production
  • Nuanced understanding of business-generated data, including its fundamental limitations
  • Ability to evaluate tradeoffs between simple vs. complex models/solutions

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimize AI solutions in production, leveraging GenAI, computer vision, and traditional ML models for marketing or site content use-cases
  • Apply best practices in software design, participate in code reviews, and create maintainable, well-tested codebases with documentation
  • Interact with Data Sciences team, Product teams, Scientist/Engineer individual contributors, and business partners to influence and define solutions
  • Identify problems to solve and contribute to Data Sciences’ and Target’s culture
  • Develop problem statements capturing business considerations, define metrics/measurements to validate model performance, and drive feasibility studies with data requirements and solution approaches
  • Develop and maintain basic data pipelines
  • Ensure foundational programming principles are followed in developing team’s products/models
