Requirements

  • Associate's Transcript showing completion of Medical Laboratory Technician degree or Technical Certificate Transcript showing completion of Medical Laboratory Technician degree
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Medical Technologists (AMT) within 1 Year or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 1 Year
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds
  • Ability to work primarily days with rotating weekends and holidays
  • Preferred: 1-3 years related experience and/or training

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing utilizing established protocol with a high degree of accuracy in all departments of the laboratory
  • Perform calibration, quality control checks and preventative maintenance steps on assigned instrumentation
  • Review, research, interpret and report data; distinguish between normal and abnormal clinical parameters
  • Properly identify patients before specimen collection, explain the collection procedure and provide necessary preparation and collection instructions
  • Collect, receive and transport blood and other specimens from clinic patients following accepted standards; perform phlebotomy and other specimen collection procedures competently
  • Implement and monitor laboratory inventory and control program
  • Manage resource utilization (supplies and equipment) in department
  • Actively participate in quality assurance program; recommend corrective action for identified problems; review policies and procedures; assist in preparation for and participate during inspections
  • Maintain confidentiality; comply with safety principles, laws, regulations, and standards (e.g., CMS, The Joint Commission, DHHS, OSHA)
  • Work effectively in a team environment, promote Avera’s values, and uphold CARE standards
