Associate's Transcript showing completion of Medical Laboratory Technician degree or Technical Certificate Transcript showing completion of Medical Laboratory Technician degree
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Medical Technologists (AMT) within 1 Year or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 1 Year
Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds
Ability to work primarily days with rotating weekends and holidays
Preferred: 1-3 years related experience and/or training

Responsibilities

Perform testing utilizing established protocol with a high degree of accuracy in all departments of the laboratory
Perform calibration, quality control checks and preventative maintenance steps on assigned instrumentation
Review, research, interpret and report data; distinguish between normal and abnormal clinical parameters
Properly identify patients before specimen collection, explain the collection procedure and provide necessary preparation and collection instructions
Collect, receive and transport blood and other specimens from clinic patients following accepted standards; perform phlebotomy and other specimen collection procedures competently
Implement and monitor laboratory inventory and control program
Manage resource utilization (supplies and equipment) in department
Actively participate in quality assurance program; recommend corrective action for identified problems; review policies and procedures; assist in preparation for and participate during inspections
Maintain confidentiality; comply with safety principles, laws, regulations, and standards (e.g., CMS, The Joint Commission, DHHS, OSHA)
Work effectively in a team environment, promote Avera’s values, and uphold CARE standards
