Requirements

Candidates should possess 15+ years of software engineering experience with architecture-level ownership in ML, data infrastructure, or high-scale systems, along with proven experience leading the design of ML platforms that serve large-scale training and inference workloads. Strong technical fluency in distributed storage, high-volume data pipelines, and data compression strategies for ML use cases is required, as is knowledge of Linux systems, Python, and C++ or similar performance-oriented languages, and experience operating in hybrid environments including bare metal, HPC, and public cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure).

Responsibilities

The Data & ML Infrastructure Architect will own the architecture of Motional’s ML data infrastructure, enabling scalable ingestion, storage, curation, and access for 100+ engineers and researchers across autonomy teams, and design and evolve infrastructure to support petabyte-scale machine learning workflows. They will also architect high-throughput systems for distributed training on large GPU clusters, establish robust data governance, observability, and retention strategies, and collaborate cross-functionally with ML engineers, autonomy researchers, data engineers, and DevOps to ensure tight integration between infrastructure and user workflows, leading technical strategy and roadmap development for the ML & Data Platform team, mentoring and influencing engineers across teams, and promoting engineering excellence in distributed systems, ML platforms, and autonomy-scale data management.

Motional

Develops fully driverless robotaxis for urban transport

About Motional

Motional develops fully driverless vehicles, specifically robotaxis, aimed at transforming urban transportation. Their all-electric robotaxis are designed to navigate complex city environments safely and efficiently. Motional partners with ride-hailing and delivery services, providing them with advanced autonomous vehicle technology to enhance their operations and reduce costs. A unique aspect of Motional's service is its Command Center, which allows for real-time tracking of each robotaxi, enabling human agents to monitor performance and ensure passenger safety. Unlike many competitors, Motional focuses on integrating its vehicles into existing mobility networks, making driverless technology accessible and reliable. The company's goal is to make autonomous vehicles a safe and integral part of urban transportation.
