Requirements

  • Knowledge of chemistry principles and practices including analysis, evaluation, and waste processing protocols

  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree or equivalent (a candidate with no degree requires 3 years relevant work experience, typically gained through less than 1 year in waste disposal, chemistry, or related field)

Responsibilities

  • Performs preparation techniques and instrumental analysis of environmental samples for organic and inorganic constituents using approved EPA test methods, SOPs, and Work Instructions
  • Participates in the generation of SOPs and Work Instructions under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager
  • Prepares samples for laboratory equipment
  • Utilizes and understands essential functions for instrument sequencing and data processing (including basic instrument maintenance and repairs, analytical standard preparations, and maintaining required documentation)
  • Validates methods for testing organics and inorganics using various processes and instrumentation
  • Performs satisfactory Initial Demonstration of Capability (IDOC) prior to data reporting and maintains annual Demonstration of Capability (DOC) for each method
  • Identifies chemical content of materials and conducts research on appropriate treatment studies
  • Provides technical knowledge to develop formulas, enhance or create processes and methods for solving technical problems
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment
  • Maintains familiarity with quality control measures and calculations for applicable methods
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
