Requirements

  • Studying for a master’s degree in computer science, medical engineering, mathematics, physics or a comparable subject
  • Experience with test setups and object-oriented programming languages (e.g. C/C++), script languages (e.g. Python, Matlab) or libraries (OpenCV, Qt, DCMTK)
  • Good grasp of mathematics
  • Desire to tackle challenging problems in medical engineering
  • Known for initiative and flexibility among friends and fellow students
  • Good command of English and ideally a good command of German
  • Ability to work independently, highly motivated, committed, and prepared to take on responsibility quickly
  • Available for 6-month full-time internship starting March or April 2026 in Freiburg (Breisgau)

Responsibilities

  • Support the navigated spinal surgery team in innovative projects
  • Develop prototypes for the Surgical Navigation System and support the team with proof-of-concept applications
  • Be an active member of an international and interdisciplinary research and development team
  • Implement solutions using C++, Python, and/or Matlab
  • Evaluate solutions in an ecosystem of state-of-the-art navigation and imaging systems
  • Learn and apply the latest technologies in machine vision, computer graphics, human-computer interaction, and interactive systems
  • Conduct independent research in the surgery room environment to apply innovative ideas in a value-adding way
