Requirements

Studying for a master’s degree in computer science, medical engineering, mathematics, physics or a comparable subject
Experience with test setups and object-oriented programming languages (e.g. C/C++), script languages (e.g. Python, Matlab) or libraries (OpenCV, Qt, DCMTK)
Good grasp of mathematics
Desire to tackle challenging problems in medical engineering
Known for initiative and flexibility among friends and fellow students
Good command of English and ideally a good command of German
Ability to work independently, highly motivated, committed, and prepared to take on responsibility quickly
Available for 6-month full-time internship starting March or April 2026 in Freiburg (Breisgau)

Responsibilities

Support the navigated spinal surgery team in innovative projects
Develop prototypes for the Surgical Navigation System and support the team with proof-of-concept applications
Be an active member of an international and interdisciplinary research and development team
Implement solutions using C++, Python, and/or Matlab
Evaluate solutions in an ecosystem of state-of-the-art navigation and imaging systems
Learn and apply the latest technologies in machine vision, computer graphics, human-computer interaction, and interactive systems
Conduct independent research in the surgery room environment to apply innovative ideas in a value-adding way
