Requirements

  • Able to read and interpret instrument and electrical installation drawings, process plant P&IDs, wiring schematics, loop drawings, electrical one-line drawings, and component assembly drawings
  • Able to read and follow technical manuals, specification sheets, maintenance instructions, parts bill of materials, and understand the significance of materials of construction for specific applications
  • Heat trace testing knowledge using a multi-meter and megohm meter
  • Knowledge of heat trace control panels
  • Knowledge of thermal insulation systems
  • Troubleshooting capabilities
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work through problems in stressful conditions and remain calm
  • Respond to off-hours plant emergencies as a shared responsibility with other technicians
  • Must have or meet requirements for a TWIC card
  • Must have NCCER certification or equivalent
  • Must have NCCER validation or equivalent
  • High school diploma/GED with minimum 5 years petrochemical plant experience as an I&E technician (or 2-year technical college diploma or military training in instrumentation, electrical, or electronics, and minimum of 3 years plant experience as an acceptable substitute)

Responsibilities

  • Trouble-shoot, calibrate, maintain, and install plant instrumentation and electrical systems and components
  • Document findings, correct drawings to reflect as-built conditions, and maintain equipment history files and logs
  • Function check, diagnose, and calibrate instrument sensors, transmitters, and control elements for process parameters such as temperature, flow, level, and pressure
  • Diagnose and maintain electrical and electronics systems and components such as relays, switches, power supplies, motor control circuits, AC/DC motors, variable speed drives, electric tracing, transformers, and wiring
  • Basic trouble-shooting and component replacement on control system hardware such as DCS and PLC systems
  • Assist in determining repairs needed by recommending replacement parts, options, and solutions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Comply with all environmental, safety, and health policies and safe work practices
