Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
  • Considerable knowledge of apheresis procedures, including therapeutic plasma exchange, RBC exchange and depletion, PLT and WBC depletions, PBSC and WBC collections, Photopheresis, LDL apheresis, and therapeutic phlebotomy
  • Ability to perform under limited supervision a broad range of tasks including direct patient care in multiple apheresis modalities
  • Current knowledge of advancements in Therapeutic Apheresis, including completion of apheresis LMS modules
  • Completion of appropriate training programs for specific patient care delivery
  • Ability to travel outside regional area for coverage as necessary
  • Ability to apply high-level thinking skills to patient scheduling and prioritization

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care for 80% or more of time, delivering apheresis treatments in hospital or outpatient settings per company and hospital policies
  • Perform scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency apheresis treatments and extra-corporeal therapies, establishing care priorities
  • Initiate, monitor, and discontinue prescribed treatments and medications according to established policies
  • Give organized, concise shift reports for assigned patients
  • Ensure adequate coverage of patient treatments through appropriate scheduling
  • Assess patients pre, during, and post-treatment to detect complications, making adjustments to treatment plans as indicated by physicians
  • Communicate problems, concerns, or adverse reactions to Inpatient Program Manager, physicians, hospital nurses, and others as needed
  • Implement, administer, monitor, and document patient responses to treatments, including notification of adverse events
  • Accurately document treatment information in patient records (ACES) and hospital records
  • Maintain a safe environment by following universal infection control precautions
  • Report new or unusual incidents, complaints, or problems to managers and hospital personnel, tracking adverse events per Variance Reporting guidelines
  • Utilize principles of growth and development to assess patient status and recommend care plans
