Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Copywriter / video games linguist (in-house or freelancer)
  • Native level proficiency in both spoken and written English
  • Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 certification or equivalent capability
  • BS or BA degree in English literature, translation or related field
  • Experience working with Cat Tools
  • Availability to work exclusively in-house from our Keywords Tokyo studio
  • Passion for videogames

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a consistent voice that reflects the game's overall vision and aligns with its target audience
  • Work closely with the localization and quality team to ensure that the writing meets the game requirements and standards
  • Adapt game content for different regions, ensuring cultural and linguistic nuances are handled correctly
  • Ensure all written content meets the highest quality standards: culturally accurate, clear, and grammatically sound
  • Review & proofread English content previously localized from Japanese per the linguist team
  • Re-write content to maximize its consistency with legacy content as well as alignment with cultural references and style
  • Create, review and maintain style guides, glossaries and translation memories
  • Fix linguistic bugs reported by the testing team
  • Provide support and linguistic feedback to internal & external teams
  • Become a subject matter expert on the game and its content
