Requirements

  • Minimum of 2+ years related experience
  • Associate or higher degree in a histotechnician program OR associate or higher degree in chemical or biological sciences AND one year of experience/training in histology within past 5 years OR completion of at least nine months training in histotechnician program OR bachelor's or higher degree in chemical or biological sciences (including 30 hours in biology and chemistry) AND one year of experience/training in histology within past 5 years OR completion of at least nine months training in histotechnician program
  • Copy of degree required at time of hire (US degree or equivalent)
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, computer, and technical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Word processing and data management skills
  • Ability to work well in a group
  • Adherence to department's time and attendance guidelines
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods, lift up to 35 lbs., perform repetitive hand motions, work in BSL-2 lab with hazardous materials, wear PPE, exposure to cold air, and work weekends/overtime as needed

Responsibilities

  • Assist certified/licensed personnel in clinical patient testing in accordance with SOP
  • Perform histological preparations for tissue whole exome sequencing laboratory with little to no errors
  • Preparation of tissues, stained slides, macrodissection, and supporting workflow tasks
  • Set up equipment and assist with automated lab procedures as applicable
  • Assist and complete daily tasks
  • Maintain equipment and instruments in good operating condition
  • Maintain sufficient inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment
  • Document information accurately in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
  • Provide guidance for new team members
  • Train on specialized instructions for instruments/protocols (super users)
  • Identify and escalate stuck cases and unresolved issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned
