Candidates are preferred to have a CCS, RHIT, or RHIA certification, and possess a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Experience in medical coding and abstracting is required, along with knowledge of federal, state, and hospital-specific guidelines for coding and abstracting medical records.
The HIM Coder will accurately review hospital medical records, including inpatients, same-day surgeries, invasive outpatients, and emergency departments, and utilize ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes to abstract diagnoses and procedures. They will collaborate with medical staff to clarify documentation, maintain performance standards, and ensure compliance with corporate requirements regarding coding and abstracting, as well as DRG assignment.”} . The position is remote, with restrictions on the candidate’s location and a specified work schedule of Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The coder will also contribute to the overall quality of care at Virtua Health by adhering to established guidelines and working collaboratively within the healthcare system, including affiliations with Penn Medicine and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
