About the Business Development Team

The Business Development team is instrumental in driving Thumbtack's growth by transforming innovative ideas into scalable businesses. We operate across all facets of the Thumbtack marketplace—Customers, Pros, Fulfillment, and Platform & Tools. Our responsibilities include launching new initiatives from inception ("0 to 1") and developing the strategies to scale them into sustainable revenue streams. We manage key supply and demand programs, including strategic API partnerships, and act as general managers for these areas. Our team also provides deep category expertise to ensure a smooth and reliable experience for both customers and professionals across all Thumbtack services.

About the Role

The Head of New Ventures is a leadership position responsible for bringing our "0 to 1" initiatives to life. The New Ventures team is dedicated to ideation, incubation, and making bold strategic bets to drive Thumbtack's next phase of growth. By collaborating with internal and external partners across diverse teams and verticals, this role focuses on creating value for our customers, Pros, and Partners, ensuring we meet user needs at every stage of their homeownership or property management journey.

Responsibilities

  • Set the vision, strategy, and goals for the New Ventures team.
  • Serve as a General Manager (GM) to lead cross-functional teams in the ideation, incubation, and delivery of new ventures.
  • Identify new strategic bets and commercial opportunities that will unlock incremental growth for Thumbtack.
  • Identify, acquire, and collaborate with external partners to deliver net new growth opportunities.
  • Partner closely with internal teams to build and deliver innovative new products and capabilities outside of our core experience.
  • Lead bi-annual planning and secure necessary resourcing to deliver a compelling roadmap.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in partnerships, business development, strategy, and/or management consulting (or comparable experiences).
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships (internal and external) and deliver customer-centric solutions.
  • Strong GM and "owner" mindset with proven strategy, product, operations, and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly flexible and adaptable with the ability to pivot easily, manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, and execute hands-on.
  • A technology enthusiast with positive curiosity and a drive to build and learn.
  • Proven ability to manage, utilize, and prioritize time and efforts effectively.
