Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Successfully completed a progression program for Cable Splicers and be a Fully Qualified Splicer
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Qualified to obtain or maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Must live within 60 minutes of the reporting location for trouble call assignments
  • Must successfully pass the EEI Construction and Skilled Trades Test (CAST) Test, an agility assessment, and a knowledge-based exam
  • Successful CAST test candidates will participate in a behavioral-based interview
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, emergency responses, and on-call assignments
  • Ability to sit for a minimum of two to three hours
  • Ability to lift up and push/pull up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to climb or use authorized equipment to reach various heights and breadths
  • Frequent and repetitive bending/stooping/squatting
  • Ability to differentiate between colors (color vision)
  • Manual dexterity to operate small hand tools

Responsibilities

  • Perform work in connection with the installation, operation, and maintenance of underground and aerial cable systems
  • Work heavy physical work indoors and outdoors in all seasons
  • Operate and maintain light construction and maintenance equipment
  • Follow oral and written instructions and interpret data, information, and documents
  • Analyze and solve problems and observe and interpret situations
  • Learn and apply new information or new skills while working under deadlines and constant interruptions
  • Respond to emergency situations and on-call assignments
