Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Able to pass a comprehensive background check, including drug screening
  • Technical expertise in maintaining and monitoring animal health and physical environment under complex instructions
  • Availability for rotational days/weekends, occasional holiday, and/or on-call shifts
  • Tolerance for environmental conditions including loud noises, strong odors, and use of PPE (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinary staff in the documentation and triage of all animal health cases noted by technical staff and/or Attending Veterinarian
  • Conduct regular clinical rounds and routine health monitoring and examinations in support of studies, per research program requirements, and implement preventive measures such as vaccinations and anthelmintic treatments
  • Investigate site staff reports of animal health issues or conditions suggesting problems with animal well-being; recommend, administer, and record routine treatments (following coordination with study directors) and generate summary reports as necessary
  • Perform and document appropriate clinical observations; ensure corrective actions for health or welfare issues are developed and implemented per research programs
  • Notify veterinary staff, study directors, and other appropriate personnel of conditions indicative of pain, distress, or abnormal findings that could compromise studies
  • Perform routine veterinary technical and husbandry skills, including: administration of therapeutic measures (IV, IM, SQ, topical, oral), bandage/wrapping, nail/hoof/teeth clipping/trimming, venipuncture, vaginal swabs, proficient animal restraint, and monitoring critical care animals (e.g., place IVs, monitor fluids)
  • Perform animal follow-up observations or address new findings as required
  • Monitor animal health visually and by following detailed schedules
  • Generate animal treatment records
