Requirements

Candidates must have prior startup experience or a strong appetite for it, be fluent in Python and SQL, and possess a track record of shipping ML systems to production, including feature engineering, training, serving, monitoring, and retraining. Deep exposure to a modern cloud ML stack, particularly GCP services like BigQuery, Vertex AI, and Cloud Composer, is essential, along with strong systems design instincts and a bias for pragmatic, scalable solutions. High agency, low ego, and a Bay Area residency with a commitment to 5-day-a-week onsite work are also required. Bonus points are given for hands-on MLOps experience, familiarity with time-series and unstructured data for forecasting/optimization, Terraform and Kubernetes experience, a history of mentoring, and a passion for supply chain or logistics.

Responsibilities

The Founding AI Engineer will own product velocity across the full ML stack, from cloud infrastructure and data pipelines to model-serving endpoints and lightweight dashboards. Responsibilities include rapidly shipping ML features by prototyping, demoing to customers, and iterating based on feedback, as well as scaling the forecasting engine and data ingestion workflows across customers with automated retraining and drift monitoring. The role also involves designing and building clean, scalable backends, APIs, and inference services, collaborating on architecture, product direction, hiring, and culture, and focusing on real-world outcomes like inventory turns, margin, and cash flow.
