Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems for heavy equipment and vehicles
  • Knowledge of vehicle body control systems, including hydraulics and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems for diagnosing and repairing complex systems
  • Knowledge of welding tools for fixing heavy equipment
  • Ability to perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance functions on-site and on the road
  • Ability to road test vehicles to determine necessary repairs
  • Experience supervising technician teams (A, B, C level, and lead technicians)

Responsibilities

  • Supervise technician team responsible for preventive maintenance/repair of fleet (trucks - diesel and alternate fuel), containers, heavy duty equipment, post-collection facility machinery, and container shop equipment
  • Provide direction to technicians to ensure all repairs/maintenance comply with Company safety/compliance standards and federal/state regulations
  • Plan and schedule repair work to ensure safe and timely completion, reducing lost productivity
  • Monitor operational performance/efficiency and redirect activities as needed
  • Report to management on performance and recommend process/programmatic changes for improvement/efficiencies
  • Conduct daily shop huddles, fleet walks; coach/counsel/train technicians on performance/corrective action
  • Make hiring/termination decisions with HR and management; conduct training, performance evaluations, and recommendations for merit increases, promotions, job changes
  • Perform inspections of outside repairs to ensure compliance; follow up as needed
  • Identify training opportunities, document issues, and discuss corrective actions with technicians
  • Conduct Quality Control Inspections, track issues/resolutions for compliance
  • Oversee repair diagnostics on complex matters, provide coaching, and road test vehicles
  • Oversee maintenance shop inventory control to maintain equipment/parts levels and stay within budget; review/approve expenses, refer larger ones to manager
  • Manage administrative matters: payroll, employee records, maintenance records in Dossier Software, prepare/submit budgets, set departmental goals aligned with targets/objectives
